Interactive Brokers Adds SafetyPay Funding for Latin American Clients

Updated: Fresh

Interactive Brokers announced on 18 August that eligible clients in Latin America can fund IBKR accounts through SafetyPay, a Paysafe service that supports transfers from personal bank accounts in local currencies.

The broker said the integration is designed to make account funding faster and simpler for clients in the region. Once funded, eligible clients can access IBKR’s range of products, including stocks, options, futures, currencies, bonds, funds, and other markets from the broker’s unified platform.

Funding rails are not as visible as commissions or platform tools, but they shape the actual client experience. Deposit friction, conversion steps, transfer costs, and settlement timing can all affect how quickly a trader can move from cash to an executable idea.

The update also fits a broader broker trend: global platforms are localizing payments and onboarding in regions where investors want international-market access without relying only on U.S. dollar wires.

Why it matters

For Latin American traders comparing international brokers, local-currency funding can reduce operational friction. It may not change execution quality or market access, but it can improve the path from account opening to active trading.

Traders should still check country eligibility, funding limits, FX conversion costs, withdrawal rules, and whether the funding method changes account base-currency decisions.

What to watch next

Watch whether IBKR expands similar local funding integrations to more Latin American countries or adds additional payment methods. The important details will be fees, supported currencies, processing times, and any restrictions for futures or margin accounts.
