Interactive Brokers Adds Bucharest Stock Exchange Access

Interactive Brokers announced on 13 August that eligible clients can now access Romanian equities through the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

The broker said the launch lets clients trade Romanian stocks through the same Interactive Brokers account and platform setup they use for other global markets. Interactive Brokers described the addition as part of a wider market-access offering that spans more than 170 global exchanges.

The press release frames Bucharest as an emerging-market access story. Interactive Brokers said Romania was elevated to MSCI Advanced Frontier Market status, while the Bucharest Stock Exchange’s BET index reached record highs in 2025 and continued to grow through the first half of 2026.

The Bucharest Stock Exchange said the connection creates another gateway for international investors into Romania’s capital market. Interactive Brokers highlighted standard platform access across mobile, web and desktop, but availability remains subject to client eligibility and local product rules.

Why it matters

For global equity traders, the launch adds direct access to a smaller European market that is not always available through mainstream retail brokerage platforms. It may also make Romanian listed companies easier to include in multi-country portfolios without opening a separate local brokerage relationship.

The trade-off is market depth. Frontier and emerging-market venues can have wider spreads, lower liquidity and different settlement or custody costs than major U.S. and Western European exchanges.

What to watch next

Watch the fee schedule, supported order types and live liquidity on high-volume Bucharest names. For active traders, the useful test is whether the added market access comes with enough depth and execution transparency to support more than occasional position building.
