SEC Acknowledges KalshiEX Notice to Register for Security Futures Trading
The Securities and Exchange Commission has acknowledged receipt of KalshiEX LLC’s Form 1-N notice of registration as a national securities exchange for the limited purpose of trading security futures products. The notice says KalshiEX filed the form with the Commission on 3 September, and the acknowledgement was published in the Federal Register on 11 September.
Under Exchange Act Section 6(g), an exchange that is also a Commodity Futures Trading Commission-designated contract market may register through a written Form 1-N notice when it trades only security futures products, futures on exempted securities, or authorised futures on securities indexes. The law makes the registration effective when the notice is submitted, provided the required conditions are met.
The SEC’s notice is an acknowledgement of receipt, rather than an approval of a new general securities-exchange business. It states that Form 1-N materials and exhibits are available through the Commission’s website. The published notice identifies the filing as Release No. 34-106296 and File No. 10-253.
Why it matters
For traders following event-contract and derivatives-market developments, the notice clarifies a regulatory status specific to security futures. It does not itself mean that any particular contract is newly available, nor does it expand trading beyond the product categories and legal conditions set out in the notice.
What to watch next
Watch KalshiEX and SEC materials for product listings, exchange rules and any related CFTC actions. Before trading a security-futures product, traders should review contract specifications, margin requirements, liquidity and the venue’s eligibility rules.
