CFTC Sets Innovation Advisory Agenda Covering Crypto, AI and Prediction Markets
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission published the agenda for the August 20 inaugural meeting of its Innovation Advisory Committee in Washington.
The CFTC said attendees will discuss topics related to the regulation of crypto assets, artificial intelligence and prediction markets. The meeting is scheduled to stream live on CFTC.gov, and the agency said members of the public may submit comments connected to the meeting by August 27.
Chairman Michael S. Selig, the committee’s sponsor, framed the meeting around how emerging technologies and financial products are shaping markets. The agenda update follows the CFTC’s earlier announcement that the new committee would advise the Commission on issues at the intersection of technology, law, policy and finance.
Why it matters
Crypto derivatives, event contracts and AI-supported trading tools increasingly touch the products and platforms active traders use. A CFTC advisory committee does not write rules on its own, but its agenda can show which market-structure and investor-protection questions are moving onto the regulator’s near-term discussion list.
For traders, the prediction-market focus is especially relevant. The CFTC has been active this summer on event-contract filings, pricing disclosures and state-law conflicts, so the committee’s discussion could shape later guidance or rulemaking priorities.
What to watch next
Watch the August 20 livestream, any published meeting materials and the public-comment docket ahead of the August 27 deadline. The most useful signals will be whether committee members focus on product listing standards, market-maker incentives, AI-driven surveillance, retail access or cross-jurisdictional oversight for prediction markets.
