Interactive Brokers Opens AI Connectivity to MCP-Compatible Tools
Interactive Brokers announced on July 28 that clients can now connect their brokerage accounts to AI tools built on the Model Context Protocol, expanding access beyond the certified marketplaces for ChatGPT, Claude and Grok.
The broker said clients can connect from MCP-compatible tools including Claude Code, Cursor, Perplexity and Windsurf. The AI Integration can be used to analyze portfolios, research investments, monitor risk and draft trade instructions in natural language.
Interactive Brokers said clients must review each instruction and convert it to an order on an Interactive Brokers platform before submission. The company also said clients control what the AI can access, and that the integration works across Client Portal, IBKR Desktop, IBKR GlobalTrader, IBKR Mobile and Trader Workstation.
This is a platform update rather than a new tradable market, but it matters because broker workflows are moving from static screens toward connected research, risk and order-preparation tools. The practical question for active users is whether AI-assisted portfolio analysis can speed up idea generation without weakening order-review discipline.
Why it matters
Broker AI tools are starting to sit closer to account data and trade tickets. That can improve portfolio analysis and risk checks, but it also makes permission controls, audit trails and final human approval more important.
For traders comparing platforms, AI connectivity is becoming part of the research and workflow stack, alongside commissions, data fees, execution quality and mobile tools.
