CFTC Staff Issues No-Action Position for Kraken Derivatives Exchange Procedures
The CFTC’s Division of Market Oversight issued a no-action letter to Kraken Derivatives Exchange Inc., formerly Small Exchange Inc., covering certain procedures related to dormancy at the designated contract market.
The CFTC said the no-action position is time-limited and subject to the terms and conditions in the staff letter. The request extends the no-action position previously granted to Kraken Derivatives Exchange in CFTC Letter No. 25-46.
This is a narrow procedural item, not a product approval or a customer-facing broker launch. Still, it matters because designated contract market operating procedures determine how listed derivatives venues maintain rule compliance, product status and market continuity.
Why it matters
For traders, DCM procedure relief can affect how a regulated derivatives venue manages dormant contracts or dormant market activity behind the scenes. It does not change trading access by itself, but it is part of the regulatory infrastructure supporting listed futures and event-style derivatives markets.
What to watch next
Watch whether the CFTC makes the dormancy framework more permanent or continues handling exchange-specific procedural issues through time-limited staff letters. Traders using Kraken-linked derivatives venues should also watch for any related rule filings or product-status updates.
