Quote
In forex, a quote is the current price of a currency pair displayed by your broker. It consists of two prices: the bid (what buyers are willing to pay) and the ask (what sellers are willing to accept). When you see EUR/USD quoted as 1.0845/1.0847, the bid is 1.0845 and the ask is 1.0847.
Quotes update constantly during market hours, reflecting real-time supply and demand. During peak liquidity (London-New York overlap), quotes on major pairs can change dozens of times per second. The frequency and reliability of quotes depends on your broker's liquidity providers and technology infrastructure.
Some brokers display "indicative" quotes that may differ from actual execution prices. This is most common with market-maker brokers during volatile periods. If you notice that you're consistently getting filled at prices different from the quotes on your screen, it's worth investigating — either the broker's execution quality is poor, or you're trading during conditions where slippage is normal.
